Long-term job seekers without work, by origin

Number of long-term (longer than 1 year) unemployed job seekers (WZW) per origin in relation to the total number of WZW per origin. These are annual averages, d.w.z. the average number of WZW in the 12 months of the year. The breakdown of unemployed job seekers by origin is based on the current and 2 previous nationalities (in case of a nationality change) of the person. The VDAB, unlike with the NSSO data on origin, does not take into account the current or birth nationality of the parents. Persons of UK origin are counted in the Europe non-EU group for all years. Job seekers without a job (JSW) are persons without a job who have registered with the VDAB as job seekers. Since the definition of JSW used by the VDAB differs from the definition of unemployed as used in the Crossroads Bank for Social Security, the unemployment figures based on VDAB data and KSZ data cannot be compared.

Employees and self-employed, by origin

Number of employees and self-employed persons among the working population aged 20 to 64, by origin group, on January 1 of the year. The figures included here are administrative data based on a linkage between the socio-economic data from the Labor Market and Social Protection Data Warehouse of the Crossroads Bank for Social Security (CBSS) and the data on nationality history of that person and their parents as recorded in the National Register. In this way, administrative socio-economic data by origin are available for the entire Belgian population. To determine a person's origin, four criteria are taken into account: the person's current nationality, the person's nationality at birth (before any change of nationality), the father's nationality at birth, and the mother's nationality at birth. If one of these four criteria is a non-Belgian nationality, the person is considered to be of foreign origin. Employees and self-employed individuals are classified here according to the nomenclature of the Labor Market and Social Protection Data Warehouse of the NSSO. Employees are persons who work in paid employment (both in the private sector and in the public sector) and persons who simultaneously work in paid employment and as self-employed or as an assistant to a self-employed person, where the main job is carried out in paid employment. Self-employed persons are individuals who are employed as self-employed, individuals who are employed as a helper by an employer who has the status of a self-employed person, and individuals who simultaneously work in paid employment and as a self-employed person/helper of a self-employed person, where the main job is performed as a self-employed person/helper of a self-employed person as a primary occupation with an additional job in paid employment.
